i'll be honest... the legs and ear need much tweakage... everything looks pretty dang decent... 'cept those two areas... there's no depth in those areas, and it looks like you've multiple light sources...

it's the shading... you're not following one light source, and you're trying to show something that's not there, so to speak; comparatively speaking, they're also very shadow-heavy, whereas everything else has very little... creating the illusion that she's under the spotlight, or in a very bright place, but the cast shadow and the background beg to differ... is that ground shadow on top of the shoes? it kinda looks like it is...

all well and good but i'm really only interested in the cel-shading one.

i tried to go to it but for some reason all that came up was a small picture and it wouldn't DO anything else (wouldn't enlarge to a tutorial, when i downloaded it it was just the pic, the artist comments said theres a PDF or something there i can't find it, any idea whats up with that? is it a dA thing or what?)

yeah, i'm pretty weak on the light source thingy, any tips for how to anchor the idea of a light source?

there's really NO background, its just kind of a gradient i threw up so people wouldn't be looking at an ugly white background. same goes for the ground shadow, not looking to make a cast shadow...

yeah i see what you're sayin bout the shoes now, the right leg i kinda see it too

but for the most part she IS supposed to be under a spotlight of sorts, but i can see where some of the shadows should be different than what they are

you may only be interested in it, but everything comes from the same principles... if you can't take something away from a tutorial, then you're not really learning anything at all...

which link are you talking about btw? i may have accidentally clicked the image source instead of the link source... it happens...

as for the light source and the bg.... they're there... you threw up a gradient so that they're not floating in the great white abyss... and then you put down a shadow underneath her... bam: cast shadow and background...

nobody casts a perfect spherical shadow, unless they're wearing a huge hoop skirt (henh)

take into account that she is a shape with many shapes, and with the light where it is (it looks like a few notches down from the very top-left?), there will be some casting of shadows...

i think im gonna just diagram it...
